Blue Eyed Soul (With My Mom)

DJ Calculations Of here. If you have read any of my previous blog posts you will know I attribute my wide music tastes to my parents. They were both veterans, and traveled the world which led them to experience different cultures. One of the many bands my parents exposed me to was Hall & Oates. My mom is a HUGE fan. I've heard “You Make My Dreams Come True”, & “Private Eyes” about a million times, but never knew who actually sang these tunes.
My mom's birthday was quickly approaching and she wanted to treat herself this time around. Turns out Hall & Oates was on tour and was making a stop in a city close by (Atlanta). She was going to attend the concert with a close friend of hers, but those plans fell through. She asked me if I wanted to go to the show, and I figured why not. I knew they were a really known band, and even if it wasn't my cup of tea it would be great to see high caliber musicians do their thing.

The days leading up to the concert my mother exposed me to the awesomeness of Hall & Oates. I listened to all their popular hits, their B side stuff, and solo projects. She also played me episodes of “Live From Daryl's House”, a show where he brings musicians in and they play each others songs. After being immersed in everything Hall & Oates I was a huge fan. I was listening to them constantly and became a huge fan myself.
The concert was in Atlanta so it was about a 2-3 hour drive from where we were. We bumped Hall & Oates on the way there. I think the whole trip to the venue we both were wondering which one of their hits they would play. When we got to the concert venue I was filled with excitement. I perform a good bit so it's nice to be on the other side of things, especially with a legendary band such as themselves.

This was an outdoor concert so they had the option for folks to be able to picnic, but those were the VIP tables. We had very close seats that were off to the side. The opener was good, but forgettable. It wasn't his fault the crowd was just waiting in anticipation for Hall & Oates. Once he was finished the sound crew did their final checks and Hall & Oates entered the stage with thunderous applause.
Right when they started it started to rain. At first I was bummed out about it, but the more I listened the more I didn't care. They were killing it. They were having fun, the crowd was having fun, and I think everyone didn't even notice the rain or when it stopped. One of the musicians that did auxiliary percussion (bongs, tambourine, etc.) was so into the zone. He was playing double tambourines. These were his weapons of choice throughout the show among other things. Each musician on stage was a master of their instrument.

Every song they played there was a sea of voices singing along with them. They commanded the audience. They even came back for two encores and the crowd wanted even more. Hall & Oates proved they still had it after this show. Daryl Hall's voice was still strong and John Oates was ripping it on the guitar like they were still in the 80s.
Shortly after this concert they were inducted into the hall of fame! I was so thankful to be able to say I saw Rock N Roll hall of famers perform. After this show we were both hype. Our ears were ringing, but we didn't care! If you ever get the chance to see Hall & Oates perform you won't be disappointed I hope I get to see them kill it in the future!
