Artist Spotlight: TSHA

TSHA

Listening to DJ mixes can be monotonous at times. There are several thousand out there for daily listening via soundcloud, mixcloud, and a slew of other music streaming platforms. Despite my disdain for listening to DJ mixes they serve a purpose. The great thing about DJ mixes is you often discover new artists, and new songs you might enjoy. Being a big fan of London based house music label Anjunadeep, I always give their "Deep Edition" DJ mixes a listen. I'm so glad I give TSHA's a listen.

I first heard TSHA DJ on Anjunadeep's Deep Edition 249 (You can listen to it here). She was dropping tons of deep tracks I've never heard, and a few I was familiar with. Her mixing was impeccable, so I wanted to listen to some of her original records. From there I listened to her track “Sacred” that was picking up steam in the deep house world (“Sacred” was cosigned by legendary DJ Bonobo). I immediately fell in love with “Sacred”, due to its uses of mellow pady synths and electric pianos. The main chord lines (or "hook") from the electric piano combined with pitched down vocals will give the listener chills.

Fast forward to a couple months later and I stumbled upon her Moonlight EP (listen here). This has probably been one of my favorite deep house releases this year. This EP more or less had the same vibe of “Sacred”, but expanded upon. The only track that seemed to differ was “Vibe” which felt “bouncy” due to an arpeggiated square-like lead line. Tracks like “Me & You”, “Moon”, and “Back To You” often have a dominated string/plucked instrument line. My favorite release on this EP has to be “Back To You” which features a singer Reader. This track has a mellow feel which becomes almost aggressive after a sung verse by Reader that reminiscences of a past relationship.

TSHA plans to release another EP titled, “Flowers”. The single of this project is titled "Sister" which was inspired by connecting with a half sister she wasn't aware of. Upon listening, you immediately feel warmth and summer vibes. You can really hear how TSHA's production skills have matured in this release. From the various panned instruments, and use of effects this is sure to be a crowd-pleaser. This upcoming EP might strongly solidify TSHA's presence in the deep house community. If you're in need of new music check out all of TSHA's DJ mixes and original releases. You won't be disappointed.
